The time has come!

Dear little baby who is STILL residing inside me,
While it has been a pleasure housing such a special little spirit these past 40 weeks, enough is enough. Here's your eviction notice. Live it up in there today because tomorrow will be quite a shocker. As much as I've loved the anticipation of your arrival, I'm just plain out tired now and am ready to see you (and let me tell you, there had better be hair on that head, because I haven't suffered with heartburn all this time for nothin!)
With love,
mom

Arrrrg Matey!

Ok, so I had more than just pirates for halloween, but I couldn't think of a catchy title that used both "princess ballerinas" and pirates. :D

Here's some pictures from this weekend's activities. The kids were just too stinking cute!

what is funnier than...

....you're 3 year old singing "livin' in my own world" from High School musical?? (I don't actually know the real title of the song....probably something like "the start of something new"?) Probably the only thing cuter is when your 5year old and your 3 year old sing it together, him singing the "boy parts" and her singing the "girl parts". I've GOT to figure out how to record it because let me tell you....THAT is quality entertainment. :D

baby blues

I really thought with this being my fifth baby, that I pretty much knew how things were going to go. I thought for sure I'd get induced somewhere between 38-39 weeks just like it's happened in past pregnancies. Well let me tell you, I don't know squat!

At my appointment today, my doctor was really surprised to find that I'm STILL not dilated at all, and am, as he said "still thick and hard". He told me he thought with this being #5, that I would have already delivered her. "Me too," I told him. So we talked about induction...but at this point, he doesn't think my cervix is favorable for an induction, and so chances of a c-section would be high. So the logical choice would be next week, right? (the week I'm due!). Only one small problem. MY DOCTOR IS OUT OF TOWN NEXT WEEK! AHHHHHHHHHH! So unless I happen to go into labor on my own, I'm scheduled to see my Dr. a week from Monday, and he plans to induce that Wednesday, the 31st.

Wait.
The 31st???????? That's SIX DAYS past my due date.
But that's the plan. *sigh*

I got out of the Dr.'s office and the floodgates opened up. I had a BIG FAT PITY PARTY and I'm sure I startled anyone that might have seen me in the parking lot. I had never thought I'd have to go past my due date. I knew it wasn't the end of the world and yet I could not stop the tears.

Then someone told me "it could always be worse" and went on to name a couple of worse situations. It was what I needed to hear because quite honestly I could not get out of my "woe is me" funk. So, instead of focusing on the two long weeks that most likely I'll get to, I'm counting my blessings. I have much to be grateful for, so I need to pull up my bootstraps and keep on keeping on. Or something like that.

And who knows, maybe my body will surprise me yet. ;0)

my sweet girl

Tonight I went out for a little while after dinner. Since it's a school night, Rob had already put the kids to bed when I got home. He told me that Alexis had left me a couple of notes on my desk. The first said this:

"To Mom and Dad, Frome Alexis.
I wont (want) to say I love you both the way you are. And I wood be sade if you wuor (were) gon. I wood miss you both. Love Alexis."

Totally heartwarming. I had to go wake her up just to tell her I love her. So sweet. :)

halloween's coming!

...and guess who's not ready! LOL
Actually I've basically put it off so long because the kids have chosen pretty easy things, so it's made my life pretty easy.

Despite trying to convince Haley to be the cutest lil' black cat you ever did see, she's informed me that she is going to be a princess and that I need to buy her some "clip clops" (high heels). At least she's not picky about what color princess dress she'd like. So I plan on recycling one of the old princess dresses that we've used before.

Alexis at first also wanted to be a princess, but just recently has gone on to specify that she wants to be a ballerina princess. Not just an ordinary princess. So I need to make her a little tutu, but again, it's not really too hard, and so I've put it off.

And my little boys, gotta love them. They are both going to be pirates. It just doesn't get easier than that! (well ok, David really didn't have a say since he is too little to care. :D).

And little Lindsey, who had better be here by Halloween, is going to be....A NEW BORN BABY! LOL Ok, a cop out really but hey...I really didn't plan to dress her up. :)

Have you all got your costumes ready?? My kids are so excited they can't wait! This mommma better get crackin!

vicks vaporub

I received this in an email from my friend Toni. I decided not only to try it on my kids last night but also myself. And it did great. It didn't last all night, but we managed to make it to morning. So try it out for yourself (well the next time you have a cough...I mean unless you just LOVE vicks that much. :D).

Isn't life strange? When we had a lecture on Essential Oils, they told us how the foot soles can absorb oils. Their example: Put garlic on your feet and within 20 minutes you can 'taste' it.
Some of us have used Vicks Vaporub for years for everything from chapped lips to sore toes and many body parts in between. But I've never heard of this. And don't laugh, it works 100% of the time although the scientists at the Canada Research council (who discovered it) aren't sure why.

To stop night time coughing in a child (or adult as we found out personally), put Vicks Vaporub generously on the bottom of the feet at bedtime, then cover with socks. Even persistent, heavy, deep coughing will stop in abo ut 5 minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of relief. Works 100% of the time and is more effective in children than even very strong prescription cough medicines. In addition it is extremely soothing and comforting and they will sleep soundly. I heard the head of the Canada Research Council describe these findings on the part of their scientists when they were investigating the effectiveness and usage of prescription cough medicines in children as compared to alternative therapies like acupressure.
Just happened to tune in A.M.Radio and picked up this guy talking about why cough medicines in kids often do more harm than good due to the chemical makeup of these strong drugs so,I listened. It was a surprise finding and found to be more effective than prescribed medicines for children at bedtime, in addition to have a soothing and calming effect on sick children who then went on to sleep soundly. Polly tried it on herself when she had a very deep constant and persistent co ugh a few weeks ago and it worked 100%! She said that it felt like a warm blanket had enveloped her, coughing stopped in a few minutes and believe me, this was a deep, (incredibly annoying!) every few seconds uncontrollable cough, and she slept cough-free for hours every night that she used it. If you have grandchildren, pass it on. If you end up sick, try it yourself and you will be absolutely amazed by the effect.

still here..still pregnant

...still VERY MUCH big fat and pregnant. :)
I was hoping for some kind of progress after last week's appointment (still closed but about 50% effaced) but there was no change at today's. I shouldn't be surprised..it's been the same way with all 4 of my other children, so why would it be any different this time?? That would be because Erin is a sucker. :D

It is actually good thing since the kids and I are all battling a nasty cold. Not really something I'd like to pass on to a new baby.

Even tho the end is "in sight", it feels like it's never going to get here.

Idiot Box

I've been tagged by Mikki! :)

1. What TV show have you seen every episode of?
EVERY episode?? That would probably be Grey's Anatomy and maybe Lost.

2. What show makes you laugh until you cry?
Friends, SNL

3. What show do you wish had not been cancelled?
hmmm I'm not sure...none that I can think of.

4. What show do you wish WOULD be cancelled?
I have to agree with Mikki--the dumb Caveman show.

5. Who is your favorite TV character, either past or present?
I'm thinking McDreamy but maybe that's because I just watched GA last night. :D

Ok, now I'm tagging Lammy, Lolly, and Toni!
